A rear lift harness lets you take some of your dog's weight off their back legs using a handle, so a dog who can nearly manage stairs or nearly get into the car actually can. Most owners reach for one long before they consider a wheelchair.
Who it suits
Dogs with rear leg weakness who still walk but need a hand at the difficult moments. Stairs, hard floors, getting up from lying down, and getting into a car are the four that come up most.

Harness or wheelchair
A harness needs you there. A wheelchair does not. If your dog only struggles at specific moments in the day, a harness is usually enough and far less to manage. If they are struggling continuously, look at a rear support wheelchair instead, and we are happy to talk it through either way.
Getting the size right
Fit matters more on a lift harness than people expect, because a loose one slides and puts pressure in the wrong place while you are lifting. Measure using our measuring guide.
If your dog's back legs have weakened suddenly, that is worth a vet visit rather than a harness on its own.

Measure around the rear leg where the harness will sit, and check your dog's waist is within the maximum for that size.
