Ramps suit dogs with weak rear legs or joint pain, because there is no lifting involved. Steps suit confident dogs and tight spaces. Height, incline and the surface underfoot matter more than the format.
The lower the incline the easier it is on the joints. Measure from the ground to the target surface and check that against the ramp length before ordering.
Usually not on day one. Most dogs need a few short sessions with the ramp flat on the ground first. Rushing this is the main reason owners give up on one.
Introduce it flat first
Almost every dog who refuses a ramp was asked to use it at full incline on day one. Lay it flat, feed on it, then raise it slowly.
